Work starts on The Spine
Work has begun on the £35m northern headquarters being built for the Royal College of Physicians in Liverpool.The Spine will comprise 160,000 sq ft and be based in the Knowledge Quarter. It will be one of the healthiest workspaces for mental and physical wellbeing in the UK and will open in 2020.The bottom three and top four storeys – covering 70,000 sq ft – will be a centre of clinical excellence, while the remaining seven floors will offer a range of contemporary workspaces designed to meet the needs of organisations in the health, science and education sectors.The Spine will also include an internal sky garden, a fine dining restaurant and shower facilities.Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, contracted by Liverpool City Council to work on the wider Paddington Village scheme, has instigated the planning process and appointed AHR Architects and Arup to design the building. GVA and CBRE are joint agents.
