Cabinet to discuss 45-acre housing development

Tentative plans to transform a 45-acre plot of land in Coventry, which was initially earmarked for the expansion of Jaguar, into a residential scheme with the capacity for hundreds of new homes could be set to take a step forward.Coventry City Council’s cabinet will meet next week (30 October 2018) to discuss the site at Browns Lane.The authority owns about 42 acres of the plot, which has been allocated for future housing in its local plan. It is estimated that the land has a capacity for up to 475 dwellings.At the cabinet meeting, councillors will discuss plans to undertake requisite studies on the site and prepare outline plans for residential development.The move has been recommended for approval alongside a process to market and dispose of the site by tender and enter negotiations with adjoining landowners to create a “more comprehensive development”.If the recommendations are approved, Coventry City Council could lodge outline planning applications during 2019. Subject to approval, the site will be marketed and disposed of.
