Plans in for Liverpool city centre development

Revised plans to build two 11-storey buildings on an underutilised Liverpool city centre site – one of which would be a hotel – have been revealed.The development is earmarked for land where Renshaw Hall once stood on Benson Street and is similar to an application which was approved two years ago. This was to build three buildings of six to eight storeys comprising an aparthotel, 292 bedrooms of student accommodation and a pair of commercial units.Since securing consent, the owners of the site have reviewed the permission and have decided to make significant changes in order to accommodate a new end user.As such, plans have been submitted to build an 11-storey hotel with 153 rooms and an 11-storey block made up of 404 student bedrooms.The two commercial units have been removed so as to keep the focus solely on the main aspects of the development.The site is currently vacant, with the buildings which one stood there having all been demolished. A planning statement drawn up as part of the proposals notes that it has been “underutilised for a long time and now provides an important redevelopment opportunity”.Jobs are also expected to be created during both the construction phase on upon completion.
