Green light for Saltburn housing development

Plans for a 70-home development at the site of a horse-riding school and livery stable in Saltburn-by-the-Sea are set to be approved. Developers were refused planning permission for a similar development at the same site earlier this year.The proposal, put forward by developer Land Designation, is for up to 70 bungalows and two-storey houses on land south of Marske Road formerly used by Saltburn Riding School.Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council rejected a proposal for 75 houses at the same 7-acre site in May 2018 because the location fell outside Saltburn’s development limits and in a strategic gap between the seaside town and neighbouring Marske.In a design and access statement prepared by AAH Planning Consultants on behalf of the developer said the scheme can provide “much-needed housing in a sustainable location”.A reduction in scale and enhanced landscape buffers have been incorporated to address the concerns that hindered the previous application.The plans have been recommended for approval ahead of the council’s planning committee meeting on 29 November 2018.
