Gatwick Airport appoints brand new Minor Works Framework
Gatwick Airport has appointed a brand new framework catering to projects valued at £150,000 or less as part of a five-year programme of capital investment.
Eleven contractors have now been appointed to the Minor Works Framework which begins in earnest later this month. The framework will allow Gatwick to enter into partnerships with smaller construction companies, many of whom are based close by.
These partnerships will boost efficiency during procurement and delivery of high volume, small value projects which require all the expertise associated with any 24/7 operational environment. It will also ensure increased spending within the regional economy.
The framework will be divided as follows:
- Lot 1: Build – KeyMT, Instalrite and CCI
- Lot 2: Civils – Dyer and Butler, Knights Brown, Landbuild and Gatwick Construction
- Lot 3: M&E – Dyer and Butler Electrical, Aura, Spie and BP Installations
Gatwick regularly undertakes construction and asset replacement projects of differing value and complexity. The airport has established frameworks in Civils, Build and Mechanical and Electrical (M&E), though the sheer volume of small value, low complexity projects is not always suited to these.
The Minor Works Framework supply chain will now benefit from greater access to high volumes of work, allowing them to resource appropriately and deliver the level of service required.
“This new framework is designed to increase our speed of delivery and capital efficiency for low value projects,” said Peter Lederer, Head of Capital Investment Delivery for Gatwick’s Service Portfolio. “The 24/7 operational nature of the airport means that safely delivering projects requires specific expertise and skills for the scale of tasks. We intend to focus on speed of delivery and cost efficiency for this smaller portfolio and I look forward to working with the appointed contractors.”
