New Leeds park and ride set for green light
Plans for the development of a park and ride facility off the M621 motorway in Leeds have been recommended for approval. The application, which was previously recommended for approval but deferred at a meeting earlier this month (January 2019) to allow for the provision of more detail, relates to a 9.7-acre parcel of land adjacent to Junction 7 of the motorway and bordered by Hunslet Cemetery.Space for up to 1,200 cars is envisaged alongside a single storey terminus building, landscaping, CCTV, lighting, fencing and associated infrastructure. At the previous meeting, members requested further design details and improvements in the appearance of the terminal building as well as more information about how the landscaping would provide a buffer to the cemetery. Further to an enquiry at that meeting, the applicant has also confirmed the scheme will incorporate a changing places facility. The design of the building has been revised to incorporate a part green roof with the remainder covered with solar panels. The latter feature references the distinctive ‘saw tooth’ roof form of some commercial buildings within the wider area. A section of green wall is now also provided.According to a report to be scrutinised next week, it is considered that the proposal is in accordance with Leeds’ development plan. The updated application, which is being brought forward by Leeds City Council, has been recommended for approval.
