£30m business case for massive regeneration project backed

A £30m business case bid to help secure forward funding to improve infrastructure in Rutland, which forms part of plans to build thousands of home and create more than 30-acres of space for companies, is to be submitted to Homes England after being backed by the county council.Rutland County Council’s full council meeting voted on Monday 21 January to send the bid to the government agency for the funds to aid the proposed redevelopment of St George’s Barracks after the current St. George’s Evolving Masterplan and Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) business case was unanimously approved by its cabinet in December.The HIF submission is based on the latest Evolving Masterplan for St George’s, which sets out current proposals for redeveloping the site following a decision by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to close it by 2021.The current plan for the site includes 2,215 homes, 34 acres of business space to support the creation of 2,000 jobs, new healthcare and education facilities and a commitment to create a 308-acre country park.
