Hundreds of homes planned for North Yorkshire sites

A national housebuilder could construct hundreds of homes on a pair of sites in North Yorkshire if newly submitted plans are given the green light.Gladman Developments, together with the landowners, has submitted an application to Harrogate Borough Council for a mixed-used development off Lady Lane.Outline planning permission is sought for the construction of up to 480 homes on the site, of which 192 would be designated as affordable housing.The plans include the development of 4.7 acres of employment space and a retail centre. A further 32.1 acres of new public open space would be created, as well as allotments, children’s play areas and new access.The application site represents more than half of a wider site earmarked for 690 new homes and 19.8 acres of employment land as part of the emerging Harrogate Local Plan.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said the scheme would help “address the need for much needed new homes and jobs growth” in Harrogate.
