Go-ahead for plan to turn Newcastle pub into apartments
A pub and social club in Newcastle is set to be converted into residential apartments under plans that have been recommended for approval.A proposal to turn Willows Lodge, on Scrogg Road, into 16 one-bedroom apartments has been given the green light by Newcastle City Council.According to owner Johnny Richardson, the current use of the building is not sustainable, with declining trade making the closure of the pub likely. The application said the introduction of new residential apartments would help satisfy demand for housing in the area. Though the proposal involves minimal changes to the exterior of the building, two new entranceways and several windows would be added.The council’s planning committee has recommended the project be granted planning permission ahead of its meeting on Friday 8 February.
