Job-creating mixed-use scheme voted through

Plans for a major mixed-use development on the site of the last deep coal mine to close in Nottinghamshire, which will include up to 800 homes and create 1,000 jobs, has been voted through. Once known as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’, the site is on the edge of Sherwood Forest.Harworth Group was won permission for its application for the old Thoresby Colliery which closed in 2015 with the loss of 600 jobs.The site in Ollerton Road, Edwinstowe, has been earmarked by the developer for up to 800 homes as well as 348,481 sq ft of employment space, a 244-acre country park, a primary school as well as a local centre containing a mix of leisure uses, including a zip wire, commercial, employment, community and retail.The application for the 371-acre site was last discussed by the planning committee at a meeting on 19 October 2017 when it was also recommended for approval.Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning committeed voted through the application at a meeting on Tuesday 5 February.
