Council approves 2019-22 budget and 10 year investment plan
Members of Fife Council agreed a budget and a revised capital plan that focus on building a better, fairer Fife and investing in the heart of communities.The revenue budget sets out how the council will spend – and save – on running day to day services. The capital plan details long-term investment in things like buildings, roads, vehicles and technology.As part of a balanced revenue budget Fife Council will:make savings of £4.82m in a range of ways, including process efficiency savings in building services, a software licence review, reduced grass cutting and weeding, and different management structures in secondary schools;increase council tax by 3% (on band D) from April – £3.55 a month for a band D household – to raise £4.68m to put towards local services; andinvest an additional £1.15m in services – the majority of which will be spent on tackling poverty and hunger around Fife.The refreshed capital plan for 2019-29 agreed by councillors includes:£10m in each of the next two years for roads, structures and lighting – and a total of £89.6m across 10 years;£91m for new primary schools;£117.6m for secondary schools in west Fife as well as funds for a new Glenrothes/Glenwood high school and extensions to Auchmuty and Viewforth;£18.1m for new care homes; andover £300m to meet the cost of maintaining all our assets.
