Plans revealed for development at treatment works

Plans have been revealed for the redevelopment of land at a West Yorkshire sewage treatment works to create new residential and industrial units.Yorkshire Water and sister company Keyland Developments have unveiled plans for the 32-acre Esholt Waste Water Treatment Works site, located close to both Leeds and Bradford.Advances in technology have reduced the operational footprint of the works over recent years, leaving large areas of formerly operational brownfield land redundant and unused.The plans for this land include 150 new homes and a 1.08 million sq ft of industrial development. The proposed development is designed to use the heat, power and water generated by the treatment works to maximise sustainabilty and attract businesses which can contribute to the ‘circular economy’ approach.The new homes would comprise the first phase of the scheme, with properties ranging from one-bedroom maisonettes to five-bedroom detached houses.Yorkshire Water, working with Keyland Developments and a team of experts, has been developing the plans in consultation with the local community and unveiled the final plans at a public consultation event yesterday (7 March 2019).
