A 250-home residential development could be built on the outskirts of a South Yorkshire village if newly submitted plans get the go-ahead.Bellway Homes, supported by CBRE and Sten Architecture, has submitted an application to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council for development on land at Lee Lane in Royston.The 21.5-acre application site is located on the western edge of the village and currently comprises two agricultural fields.Planning permission is sought for the construction of 250 homes, with 10 per cent of the development set to comprise affordable housing.The properties would feature a mix of two-, three and four-bed properties, in detached, semi-detached and terrace housing types. The site is part of a wider area allocated for mixed-use development in the Barnsley Local Plan, with the potential to accommodate 828 houses.Barratt Homes was granted planning permission for 164 homes on land to the north-east of the site in 2018.
