New care home to be built in Exmouth

The plans have been approved after previous concerns were addressedA new 75 bedroom care home will be built in Exmouth.Barchester Health Care’s plans to a new care home on the site of the closed MHA Moreton care home in Drakes Avenue were granted unanimous approval by East Devon District Council planners at their meeting on Tuesday morning.The 75 bedrooms will all have en-suite facilities with shared kitchens and lounges, and outlining the scheme, planning officer Chris Rose said that the land had previously been used for a care home, the principle of development was acceptable and the impact on the care home could be mitigated.Planning permission in 2016 had been granted for a 61 retirement living care units – a number of which were two-bedroomed – for which was a taller building that covered a greater footprint.The care home is arranged on three floors, with additional servicing provided within a lower ground floor. Twenty five en-suite bedrooms are proposed on each of the ground, first and second floor, together with shared lounge and dining facilities. There will be 30 parking spaces – split 20 for staff and 10 for visitors.About 80 jobs would be created, the applicants say, with jobs both full and part-time to cover the shifts required to provide management and care 24 hours a day.
