Sunderland City Hall plans approved
Plans for Sunderland’s new City Hall have been approved, with the building set to be the second constructed as part of the Vaux regeneration scheme.The seven-storey, 190,000 sq ft building, designed by North East architects FaulknerBrowns, will comprise two wings connected by a glass atrium.At least two other public sector organisations will occupy the building alongside Sunderland City Council. Up to 2,000 staff will work there, consolidating departments that are currently spread across eight locations.Council-owned development vehicle Siglion is leading the regeneration of the former Vaux brewery site, which aims to generate over £500m of investment in Sunderland city centre in the 15-year period to 2030. The BEAM –a five-storey, 60,000 sq ft office building – forms the first phase of the scheme, and is expected to open in the coming weeks.
