Wigan housing site given green light despite concerns about over-development

A Wigan housing site has been given the green light despite concerns about over-development.Objectors to plans to build on vacant land off Heath Lane in Lowton said the area has already delivered its ‘fair share’ in terms of the borough’s housing allocation.But the town hall’s planning body granted permission to developer Alderwood Homes for 24 properties and committee members praised the ‘attractive layout’ of the designs.The site adjacent to the East Lancs Road is also next to a Bloor Homes development for more than 100 homes already under construction.A committee report highlighted that areas across Golborne and Lowton have been earmarked for around 1,000 homes as part of the borough’s long-term housing strategy.However, as of January this year, planning consent has been granted to 1,213 homes.
