Hotel proposed as part of Sunderland business park

Plans have been submitted for a 58-bedroom hotel to serve Sunderland’s International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP). Newcastle-based property development and hospitality company High Street Group is behind the application, with plans to operate the venue under the Hotel 52 brand, adding to existing locations in Whitley Bay and Stanley.The site sits on Washington Road, which splits the Nissan Motor Factory to the south and the IAMP to the north, next to The Three Horseshoes pub and within “The Hub” – an area at the centre of the scheme earmarked for commercial, leisure and retail uses.The proposal comprises 58 double and twin rooms over three floors. The rooms will be constructed in a factory that specialises in modular design and fabrication and subsequently assembled on site at a rate of eight per day.According to a design and access statement prepared by architect Studio SP, this will reduce the construction time by 30 to 60 per cent, minimising disruption to the surrounding developments.Work is almost complete on the first IAMP building, to be occupied by French car parts manufacturer SNOP. The wider development is set to provide approximately 2.8 million sq ft of floorspace across 370 acres and support more than 7,000 jobs in automotive, advanced manufacturing and technology businesses. The statement calls the hotel an “interesting and contemporary facade to the new IAMP hub area”.
