200-apartment scheme recommended for approval

The proposed construction of almost 200 new apartments as part of the latest phase of a major York development look set to get the green light from councillors later this week (18 April 2019).Lichfields, on behalf of Hungate (York) Regeneration, submitted an application to City of York Council in January for Block D of the Hungate development.Planning permission is sought for construction of a part six-, part seven storey building featuring 196 residential apartments.A mix of 99 one-bed, 90 two-bed and seven three bed units is proposed, and all the apartments would have access to balconies or ground floor terraces. A landscaped courtyard and green roof would also be created.The scheme would include 204 cycle parking spaces would be provided. Car parking would be provided through existing facilities on the wider Hungate site, including basement beneath Blocks A, B and C, and the multi storey car park under construction as part of Block F.The application will go before the council’s planning committee on 18 April and a planning officer’s report prepared for the meeting recommends that consent is granted, subject to the signing of a Section 106 agreement.Hybrid planning permission was awarded in April 2017 covering the outline parameters for Blocks G and H, alongside detailed proposals for the development of Blocks D and F.The new application includes a number of changes from the original plans, including an increase in the number of apartments, removal of the basement car park, and an adjustment to the housing mix.
