Military hospital acquired for £60m residential development

A grade II-listed military hospital in Aldershot is set to be redeveloped as housing in a £60m scheme following its acquisition.Weston Homes has purchased the Cambridge Military Hospital from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and Grainger.The purchase comprises a 12-acre collection of Victorian and Edwardian buildings and was built between 1875-79 based on design principles outlined by Florence Nightingale.The proposed development will feature 140 new private sale homes, both converted and new-build, including one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. It will also include commercial and community facilities and communal foyers and spaces.The hospital conversion will form the centrepiece of the Aldershot Urban Extension scheme, known as Wellesley, being developed by Grainger.Weston Homes plan to start the conversion in the summer of 2019, with the project to be phased over several years.The masterplan for the scheme was devised by Adam Urbanism, with detailed architectural design by Feilden & Mawson for the Cambridge Military Hospital and design by Allen Pyke Associates for the landscape design.
