Planning application made to build for first 500 homes and spine road on major Haverhill housing project

A planning application has been submitted to West Suffolk Council to begin working on the first phase of the 2,500 home Great Wilsey Park development on the edge of Haverhill.The development stretches around the north west side of Haverhill from near The Fox pub alongside the A143 round to the northeast of the town, stopping just short of Haverhill Golf Club.The application has been submitted by Redrow Homes Eastern Region, through its agent Bidwells, and is asking for permission to get underway with the first stage of the scheme (which already has outline planning permission) which when complete would also include two new primary schools, a local centre including shops, community facilities and apartments and a country park.The developers want to begin work on the spine road that would enter the new estate at two points; a roundabout just north of the The Fox and a signalised junction in Chalkstone Way, opposite Gannet Close, and wind its way through Great Wilsey Park.They also want to start work on the landscaping, drainage and sewage network.As part of the application there is a proposal for a separate access off the A143 for construction vehicles.A holding area would be created for the construction vehicles, most of which would enter the estate from the northern side.A secondary access for construction traffic is proposed off Chalkstone Way, but the movement of HGVs would be controlled and none would be using that route during school run times.The application also requests permission to begin phase one of the new housing – three parcels of land with a total of 507 homes.
