London Hotel Group has submitted plans to convert and extend a Grade II listed former Magistrates’ Court in Greenwich to create a £70m hotel. The scheme will also see two empty adjacent school buildings converted to create the 293-bed hotel.Designed by architect Squire & Partners, building heights will vary from three to seven storeys, with several new warehouse-style buildings providing the bulk of the hotel rooms. The ground floor of the former Magistrates’ Court and one of the school buildings will contain front of house hotel services such as the bar, restaurant and café.Further facilities include a gym, pool, conference centres and generous parking spaces. The sustainability strategy for Greenwich Magistrates Court, prepared by XCO2, is targeting the achievement of BREEAM ‘Excellent’ through a combination of efficient building fabric, highly efficient centralised heat-distribution network and renewable technologies.
