Plans for £400m redevelopment of Sirocco Works site set for approval

The £400m regeneration of the former Sirocco Works site in Belfast is set to proceed after plans were recommended for approval by the council’s planning officers.Developer Osborne+Co’s masterplan for The Waterside Belfast includes office space supporting up to 8,000 jobs, approximately 675 residential apartments, as well as community, cultural and leisure facilities such as cafes, bars, gym, restaurants and retail spaces across the 1.7 million sq ft site.Designed by architects Henning Larsen, the scheme will also seek to link the city centre with East Belfast with enhanced pedestrian and cycle connections and improvements to the nearby bridge over the River Lagan.The application will be decided by the council’s planning committee on Thursday 13 June.The construction phase, which could support over 1,000 jobs, is set to begin in the coming months under Osborne+Co’s construction director Flan McNamara, formerly project director on the £2bn London Bridge Quarter and The Shard.
