A proposal to convert a landmark building in Liverpool city centre into an 18-room hotel, including plans for a basement spa and rooftop bar, is set to be approved.Signature Living has submitted the application for the Bling Building at the corner of Hanover Street and School Lane.Originally built as hairdressing salon and training academy for hairdresser Herbert Howe, the property was sold to Signature Living in 2016.A previous application proposed maintaining the existing salon to the first floor and converting the remainder of the building to office space. However, the hair salon has subsequently ceased trading.Under the current proposal, the street-facing retail unit at ground floor and mezzanine levels will be converted into a bar and restaurant. The upper floors will be refurbished and developed into 18 suites accommodating 33 bed spaces. The roof will be enclosed to create a rooftop bar, while the basement will be retained as treatment rooms and made available to guests for spa treatments.Liverpool City Council planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval ahead of the committee’s next meeting on 18 June.
