Plans lodged for 160-home development

Plans have been lodged for more than 160 homes on the site of a West Yorkshire farm.Spawforths, on behalf of Wakefield District Housing, has submitted an application to Wakefield Council for the land off Pope Street in Altofts.Full planning permission is sought for the demolition of the buildings associated with Bridgeland Grange Farm and construction of 161 residential properties.A mix of semi-detached and detached houses with between two and four bedrooms is proposed. A total of 48 units will be offered as affordable housing.The application also covers a new substation, parking, access, public open space and landscaping work.It has been estimated that construction of the new homes could support the creation of about 240 jobs, while the scheme has the potential to generate an additional £12m GVA (gross value added) per annum for Wakefield.
