Plans for a series of developments at an East Yorkshire holiday park designed to improve the accommodation and boost the region’s tourist industry are recommended for approval when they go before councillors later this week (8 August 2019).Lichfields, on behalf of Haven Leisure, submitted an application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council earlier this year for development at Thornwick Bay Holiday Village. The park currently comprises 91.4 acres, including 1,144 static caravan pitches, 222 touring pitches and 28 chalets. The application seeks planning permission for the removal of some existing caravan pitches and chalets at the site to be replaced by new pitches. There will be a net loss of 47 pitches.Other works including construction of a new boat house, car parking, access roads, landscaping and infrastructure will be undertaken. A new nature reserve, featuring public open space and water bodies, would also be developed on land to the east of the park. The project is designed to improve the general appearance of the park through the upgrade of pitches while also moving caravans away from the heritage coastline.Bourne Leisure operates more than 50 holiday sites in the UK through its subsidiaries Butlins, Warner and Haven. The group acquired Thornwick Bay in 2015 and has made a number of investments, including improvements to the Welcome Building, restaurant and bar, and the indoor swimming pool.
