Plans in to bring historic dock buildings back into use
Historic buildings on St Andrew’s Dock in Hull could be refurbished and brought back into use under newly submitted plans.ELG Planning has submitted an application to Hull City Council for the refurbishment and re-use of the grade II-listed Hydraulic Tower and Pump House at the dock. Planning consent is also sought for the demolition of the adjoining unlisted warehouse buildings. The buildings were constructed in the 1870s and originally contained equipment used in the operation of the nearby lock gates. They were jointly listed in 1994 but are currently disused. The proposal seeks to renovate the buildings and bring them back into use with the installation of a Humph boiler system.Planning applications have previously been submitted for the conversion of the nearby Insurance and Boston Buildings for residential and office use. The proposed Pump House development would provide a central heating and hot water system serving these new uses, as well as the replacement for the Lord Line building. The building would also be used as a showroom and office for the Humph Boilers and Humph boiler technology.
