Science park phase two plans move forward
Plans for the second phase of development at The University of Derby Science Park, which includes the expansion of the iHub, have taken a step forward after a request for a screening opinion was submitted to the city council. The science park – which forms part of Infinity Park – is a collaboration between Derby City Council, the Harpur Crewe Estate, Rolls-Royce and developers Cedar House, Wilson Bowden and Peveril Securities. It is located in the south of the city, next to the global headquarters of Rolls-Royce Civil Aerospace. The second phase could comprise an extension to the iHub, including 38,394 sq ft at the ground floor and 21,764 sq ft at the first floor. Two more buildings are proposed; a diagnostic centre which would span almost 29,000 sq ft over two floors and a cancer treatment facility which would provide almost 43,000 sq ft of space.Known as the Rutherford buildings, they will be used for patient diagnostics and treatment including MRI imaging, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, proton beam therapy and supportive care. The development would also include car parking, infrastructure works, drainage, access, roads and attenuation ponds.Derby City Council will decide whether a screening opinion is necessary in due course. A formal planning application may then be submitted.
