School earmarked for old manufacturing base

A secondary school and sixth form could be built on the former Birmingham site of a £3.79bn-turnover manufacturing giant after the plans were tipped for approval.The old Smith & Nephew site in Alum Rock Road, Saltley, has been earmarked for the project which includes a three-storey building and a sports hall.The application is behind led by Wates Construction on behalf of Education & Skills Funding Agency for Eden Boys School (Star Academy).Birmingham City Council’s planning committee is due to make a final decision on the proposals at a meeting on Thursday 29 August.If granted, places would be created for 600 secondary school pupils and 200 sixth-form students.
