Go-ahead recommended for development at golf course

A development of holiday lodges and sports facilities proposed for an East Yorkshire golf course looks set to get the green light from councillors later this week (12 September 2019).WS Planning, on behalf of Park Leisure 2000, submitted a hybrid planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council earlier this year for development at Allerthorpe Golf & Park Retreat.Full planning permission is sought for the change of use of part of the site for 75 holiday static and lodge-style caravans as well as the relocation of the existing maintenance building and construction of new outdoor sports pitches, golf training area and attenuation pond.Outline consent is also sought for an extension to existing clubhouse to provide spa, gym and indoor sports facilities.It has been estimated that could create about 13 full-time equivalent jobs when complete. The construction programme would also inject about £3m into the East Yorkshire economy, as well as supporting further job creation.The application is recommended for approval, subject to conditions, when it goes before councillors at a meeting on 12 September.An officer’s report prepared ahead of the meeting said the proposal can be “developed in such a way as to have an acceptable impact on the surrounding environment” and would make a contribution to tourism in the area.The golf course previously went into liquidation in January 2013 but reopened in August 2018 following the completion of a £1.5m investment programme which the refurbishment of the clubhouse, entrance area and three of the remaining golf holes. Planning permission was previously granted on appeal for 150 lodges on the site in 2017.
