Go-ahead for major regeneration scheme
Revised plans to transform a former industrial site in Leicester’s Waterside regeneration area into hundreds of student flats and private apartments have been approved.Watkin Jones Group is to develop the vacant land bounded by All Saints Road, Bath Lane, Jarvis Street and Ruding Street into 464 student bedrooms and 184 residential apartments. The company completed the neighbouring Merlin Heights scheme in recent years which acted as the first phase of its overall development. Now that Leicester City Council has given the refreshed proposals the go-ahead, the student flats and residential apartment schemes will be constructed as phases two and three. The student flats will be managed by Fresh Student Living while the built to rent apartments would be managed by Five Nine Living.A total of 1,851 sq ft of flexible commercial space would also be provided as well as 46 ground level car parking spaces.Permission for a similar scheme was granted by the council in 2017 while new plans were submitted in October 2018 and subsequently redesigned again.According to planning documents, 30 full-time equivalent jobs will also be created. The whole scheme is expected to be completed by the summer of 2021.
