Green light for seven-storey student development

Plans for a seven-storey student accommodation development featuring almost 80 flats have been given the go-ahead.Yeme Architects, on behalf of Whirlow Capital Investment, submitted an application to Sheffield City Council earlier this year for a site on Hodgson Street in the city’s Devonshire Quarter.Members of Sheffield City Council’s Planning and Highways Committee voted to approve the plans at a meeting earlier this week (17 September 2019).The plans cover the demolition of the existing buildings on the site and construction of a new seven-storey student accommodation scheme.The development is set to comprise 77 student bedrooms. The majority of the units would be self-contained studio rooms with two duplexes also created.Communal facilities, including a work hub and games room, would be provided together with roof top landscaping, parking for seven cars and a bicycle store.Approval was granted in line with a planning officer’s recommendation, as previously reported by Insider.A decision on plans to convert the former Coroners’ Court building to create new apartments and commercials units was deferred at the meeting.
