Plans for World-Class Kings Dock Attraction Set to Move Forward

Plans to create a world-class attraction at Liverpool’s Kings Dock look set to take a step forward with the completion of a £1 deal.In January 2013, the city council’s Cabinet considered and approved a report on a masterplan and planning brief for the area, commissioned by Homes England.Four years later, proposals for the remaining development plots on Kings Dock were approved, with approval also granted for the acquisition of the vacant development land required by the council from Homes England on a 999-year lease.Following detailed consideration by both parties, the authority and Homes England have determined that the future ownership of the wider estate should rest with the former in light of its already substantial landholding and strong vision for Kings Dock.As such, it is proposed that Homes England transfers the freehold reversion of the Kings Dock site – edged red below – to Liverpool City Council for the nominal sum of £1.The acquisition will give the authority full control of the proposed future development of Kings Dock. Proposed are new homes, commercial and leisure space, making the city greener and promoting the wider waterfront.Cabinet has been asked to approve the £1 acquisition.
