Work on the first phase of a new walking and cycling route from Manchester city centre to Chorlton is set to start later this year, after a consultation revealed public support for the scheme.A review of the findings showed that about 70 per cent of more than 1,800 responses back the project. The Chester Road to Stretford Road part of the route is to be constructed, with the Stretford Road to Seymour Grove section to be progressed to a detailed design stage. The Brooks Bar junction design is subject to a review of its potential impact on the road network, in line with comments received in the consultation.A total of £13.4m is being invested into the route, which is being proposed by Manchester City Council, the One Trafford Partnership, Transport for Greater Manchester and Greater Manchester’s Cycling and Walking Commissioner, with funding from the Greater Manchester mayor’s Challenge Fund and the government’s Cycle Cities Ambition Grant.
