Multi-million investment to boost Kingston’s transport infrastructure
Kingston Council has approved £3 million per annum plans to improve Kingston’s road and transport networks over the next three years, in addition to the Go Cycle investment programme.Councillors agreed the plans at the Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee (EAST) on 7 October, which the committee heard are designed to reduce air pollution while creating safer roads and a more inclusive and accessible transport network for the borough’s residents. The Local Implementation Plan (LIP) outlines how the council will spend £1.3 million per year for the next three years funded by Transport for London (TfL), and a further £1.75 million worth of investment for the borough’s roads and pavements over the next 12 months.Making alternative transport options accessible and appealing is an important step towards reducing car journeys. The £32 million Go Cycle programme funded by TfL to upgrade and introduce a new cycle network across Kingston plays a key part in making walking and cycling the most attractive options for short journeys.
