Leicester apartment scheme plans set to move forward

Plans to build a development of almost 160 apartments in Leicester look set to get the go ahead.SMMS Developments has earmarked the plot at 96 Jarrom Street for the project.Under the plans, the existing building on the site would be demolished to make way for a five- to eight-storey structure.The scheme would comprise 159 units – all studios – as well as a commercial unit on the ground floor, which could be used as retail space, a nursery or a restaurant.Facilities such as a laundry room, lounges, a cycle store and a roof garden.The application initially proposed a nine-storey building with 180 studios, but it was scaled back.According to a document filed ahead of a Leicester City Council planning committee meeting next week (23 October 2019), the applicant is working with University Hospitals of Leicester.It is understood the housing could be used to accommodate nursing staff or relatives of patients.
