Consett housing scheme set for thumbs up

Proposals for a development of more than 100 homes in County Durham look set to be approved.The plans for the land to the north east of Castledene Road on Delves Lane in Consett were submitted by Chan Commercial Ltd and Gleeson Regeneration Ltd.It comprises grassland that is informally used as open space.The outline application has earmarked the plot for 105 homes, which could comprises a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, both detached and semi-detached.The scheme initially proposed 142 dwellings but this has been revised down.Access to the site would be provided off Gloucester Road.The proposals are set to go before Durham County Council’s planning committee later today (31 October 2019) with a recommendation for approval.Final approval is subject to the completion of a section 106 agreement to secure 10 per cent affordable housing and contributions towards education, off-site open space, healthcare provision and biodiversity enhancements.
