Nurseries under construction by Morgan Sindall

The construction contractor, Morgan Sindall has been contracted by the South Lanarkshire Council and hub South West Scotland to construct three new early years nurseries at a combined cost of £7.5M.
The three nurseries are part of the local area authority’s recent pledges to provide a total of 329 early years places for local nurseries, with the new single-storey buildings being situated at Newton Brae, in Cambuslang, on Thornton Road, in Kirkmuirhill, and at Crawforddyke Primary School, on Eastfield Road, in Carluke.
Work has already commenced and is currently underway, with completion scheduled ahead of the beginning of the next academic year in 2020.
The Morgan Sindall Construction Managing Director in Scotland, Stuart Parker stated: “We are very pleased to be working with the council and hub South West to deliver this vital extra capacity in early years education.
“These single-storey teaching spaces can be designed and built quickly. They allow local authorities to respond to increased demand from growing local communities; while aligning with the Scottish government’s commitment of doubling the entitlement to free early learning and childcare, to 1,140 hours per year by 2020.”
The South Lanarkshire Council’s Executive Director of Education Resources, Tony McDaid, commented: “The council has a commitment to deliver 1,140 hours of high quality early learning and childcare for children and families and this marks another step in the journey to achieve this.”
The Chief Executive of development partner hub South West Scotland, Michael McBrearty added: “Hub South West is delighted that this important project is now progressing with Morgan Sindall Construction named as preferred contractor for the three early years facilities across South Lanarkshire.
“Having just embarked on a varied programme of works with Morgan Sindall Construction we look forward to working with them to deliver these projects to our participants.”
