Elliot Group secures approval for £60m mixed-use scheme
Liverpool-based Elliot Group has secured approval for a £60m hotel and apartment development. The company submitted plans for the erection of a building comprising of 202 hotel rooms and 244 serviced apartments on the corner of Hawks Road and Mill Road, adjacent to Gateshead’s new waterfront arena.A rooftop garden is also included in the proposals, alongside a gym, a large bar and restaurant space, with two commercial units, 35 car parking spaces, 102 secure cycle spaces and three motorcycle spaces. It is estimated that the scheme could create up to 50 jobs when fully operational.Elliot Group’s original plans for a mid-rise apartment tower were scrapped in response to the Gateshead Quays project, which will see an arena, convention centre and associated leisure offer built on a neighbouring site between the Sage and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
