Green light for £200m energy park

The proposed £200m Yorkshire Energy Park, which has the capacity to support thousands of jobs, has been granted planning consent.The energy park development would be built on the former Hedon Aerodrome site to the east of Hull and would have the capacity to create up to 4,480 jobs, including up to 2,090 full time jobs across a range of business sectors once built and operational.Proposed by Hull-based Sewell Group, Hessle-based communications company MS3 Networks and development company Chiltern Group, the plans for the 215-acre site include an energy centre, data centre and disaster recovery suite.There is also about 83,000 sq ft of space for established and start-up businesses, education, training and research facilities alongside associated short-stay accommodation, an outdoor building materials and testing facility, and new sports facilities for the community.According to the BBC, the plans were approved by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s planning committee yesterday.Approval was granted despite a recommendation from the planning officer for refusal on the basis it would be an employment development within the countryside and accordingly contrary to employment policies outlined in the Local Plan.Avison Young are acting as planning advisors on the project.
