Work starts on Durham Distillery
Work is underway on Durham city centre’s first distillery, which is expected to open its doors in early summer 2020 and bring £1m of new investment into the city.The distillery will be located at the former Royal Bank of Scotland branch on high street, with a ten-year lease having been agreed with Prince Bishops Shopping Centre.Measuring 5,000 sq ft, the establishment will produce gin, vodka and whiskey, creating new jobs in the process.Durham Distillery was the first business to be invested in from the Finance Durham Fund, receiving a £250,000 investment.The new premises will be open to the public for tours and tastings, as well as having a shop and functions space.A crowdfunding campaign has launched, with investments starting from £10.Commercial law firm Square One Law and Harlands Accountants assisted in securing the leasing agreement
