Proposals for the construction of 14 new dwellings on the site of the former Neon Social Club in Jarrow have been given the seal of approval by planners.Premier Leisure submitted the plans to South Tyneside Council, outlining details of the proposed mix of two-storey homes, which comprise of 12 three-bedroom dwellings, of three different types and two two-bedroom dwellings, with them being for private sale. The proposals include the installation of access crossing points to private driveways and visitor parking bays on Nairn Street and Dundee Court, as well as the creation of vehicular access into the adjacent church car park from Nairn Street. The Neon Social Club building has now been demolished but external areas including the car park still remain.Residential properties lay to the east of the application site, with St John the Baptist Church to the south. The planning application has been amended significantly from the original proposals submitted in May 2018, which included 17 dwellings and 6 apartments. A report that was scrutinised by the planning committee yesterday (18 November 2019), recommended that planners be minded to grant the newly revised applications. The proposals have now been given the green light, subject to conditions.
