Green light set for extra care development

The green light is set to be given for the development of a three-storey extra care apartment building in Cullercoates, Tyne and Wear.Galiford Try Partnership submitted the proposals to North Tyneside Council, outlining plans for 64 apartments, as well as communal facilities and parking.The development consists of 45 one-bed apartments and 19 two-bed apartments, with communal facilities including a commercial kitchen and café/dining facility, resident lounge, activities room, hair salon, treatment room, assisted bathing, ancillary office accommodation and an electric buggy store and charging area.Extra care housing is designed to promote elderly people’s independence, while ensuring they are given the care that they need.There are four accommodation stair cases each functioning as a fire escape, while parking is provided adjacent to the main entrance.Measuring approximately 1.45 acres, the site is on land off Stanton Road and sites behind the current Community Fire Station. Currently vacant, the site is made up of grassed land enclosed by hedging and is bounded by housing on the north and south sides.The proposals are set to be given the green light when they go before the North Tyneside Council planning committee next week (26 November 2019).
