Mixed-use plans lodged for former cutlery works

New plans have been lodged for a mixed-use development of residential and commercial units on the site of a former cutlery works in Sheffield.Citu, supported by ID Planning, has submitted an application to Sheffield City Council for development on the Richardsons Cutlery Works site on Alma Street in Kelham Island.Planning permission is sought for a mixed-use development of 115 residential properties and two commercial units.The residential element would comprise one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom units, with a mix of apartments and houses.One of the commercial units is earmarked for a bar or restaurant while the second would be flexible to support office, retail or bar use.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said support jobs during the construction phase, with further economic benefits provided by the commercial units.The application site was formerly occupied by the Richardson’s cutlery business and associated industrial, warehouse and office buildings, which have since been demolished. It is located to the south of Globe Steel Works, Alms houses and Alma Street, and adjacent to the grade II-listed Fat Cat pub.Planning consent was previously granted in 2015 for a mixed-use development featuring 98 flats on the site.
