Go-ahead tipped for new leisure centre
A new leisure centre could be constructed in Dudley after the plans were recommended for approval.A two-storey building has been earmarked for a car park between Martin Hill Street, Constitution Hill and New Mill Street by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.The land is currently being used as a compound for the proposed Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension.If approved by the council’s planning committee on Wednesday 4 December, it would replace the existing 1970s facility in Wellington Road.The current leisure centre has a secondary function as a temporary emergency mortuary, to be used in the event of a mass casualty disaster.The proposed replacement would also fulfil this potential temporary use, as well as acting as an emergency evacuation centre.The new leisure centre has been designed by Roberts Limbrick Architects.
