Homes England publishes latest housing statistics

According to the Housing Statistics Report from Homes England, at the start of this month, the six months between the 1st April 2019 and the 30th September 2019 witnessed the highest level of housing starts in the UK against any other period of the same length in the past ten years.
On the word of these figures, there were 16,955 housing starts onsite as well as a further 14,792 housing completions that were achieved through schemes organised by Homes England, this number of housing starts over a six month period is the highest in the past ten years whereas the number of completions is the second highest since 2011.
Furthermore, out of the 16,955 housing starts 12,310 of these homes are said to have fallen under the status of affordable housing, translating to a proportion of 73 per cent, with 5,157 of this figure being made available under Affordable Rent while another 3,886 were made available under Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy schemes.
In terms of the housing projects which achieved completion, 10,295 of the 14,792 were classified as affordable housing, translating to a figure of 70 per cent, with 6,405 made available under Affordable Rent programme and an additional 3,371 through Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy schemes.
The Founder of the Modular Development company Project Etopia, Joseph Daniels stated: “There is a long way to go to plug the hole in England’s housing deficit, but Homes England is chipping away at it at an ever-growing rate, reaching a ten-year high for starts on new homes.
“In particular it is making much-needed inroads in affordable housing levels, which represents more than 70 per cent of its work.
“The 24 per cent growth in affordable home starts, compared to the same time period last year, indicates that Homes England is succeeding in driving delivery forward in that area of the market. Its efforts bode well for the coming year with a bumper rise in completions expected to follow.”
