Approval nears for Liverpool aparthotels

A vacant site on Liverpool’s Castle Street looks set for a new lease of life as plans to transform the asset into a boutique aparthotel go before councillors. A similar venue is also lined up for Watkinson Street.The first application concerns a building comprising a basement, four upper floors and two retail units. It is located with both the Castle Street Conservation Area and Liverpool World Heritage Site.Proposed is converting the vacant office to form a boutique aparthotel with 33 self-contained serviced apartments and associated ancillary facilities. The ground floor would house a residents’ lounge, reception space and back of house areas.The venue is geared towards those visiting Liverpool for leisure and business for both short and long term stays with a “requirement for high quality, serviced accommodation in a central location”.Approval has been recommended.The second application is at 6 Watkinson Street and concerns a six-storey former mill, which can date back to 1887. Proposed is transforming the site into a 42-bedroom aparthotel, with a three-storey roof extension also lined up.Approval has again been recommended.
