New plans lodged for former Leeds casino

New plans have been lodged for the redevelopment of a former Leeds casino into offices and commercial units.Allied London, supported by Zerum, has submitted an application to Leeds City Council for the change of use of the former Alea Casino at Leeds Dock.The casino closed its doors in March 2013. Planning applications were subsequently approved in 2014 for the conversion the casino to offices and an ancillary café and in 2015 for the change of use to the casino with a two-storey extension. Neither of these consents were implemented and they have now lapsed.The new application seeks planning permission for the change the use of the building to offices, together with ancillary commercial uses.It is proposed that a business lounge, reception area and ancillary café/food outlet would be created on the ground floor, with the upper floors converted into office space. Events space will be provided at ground and second floor along with a small cinema area at the second floor. The proposal also includes a new roof terrace.Leeds Dock, formerly known as Clarence Dock, is a mixed-use development located in the south east of Leeds city centre, in close proximity to the River Aire. It is constructed around the dock, which was originally built in 1843 for boats using the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the Aire and Calder Navigation.
