New bridge scheduled for the M6 in Knutsford
Work is just months away from beginning on the construction of a new bridge over the Junction 19 roundabout of the M6 in Knutsford, Cheshire, with the project costing Highways England a total sum of £43M through the £15Bn Road Investment Strategy.Going into further detail, construction of this new bridge is set to commence in March 2020, while a series of public consultation events are planned to take place towards the end of January, on the 24th and 25th at Mere and Tabley Community Club on Chester Road in the town of Mere.Specifically, the new motorway feature will cut through the M6 roundabout and will provide a better flow between the motorway itself and the A556 route, which contains a mixture of both single and dual carriageway segments, to reduce congestion and thereby reduce journey times for the commuters and local residents which use the route. This addition of a bridge to Junction 19 of the M6 comes as part of a wider programme to convert the M6 motorway into a smart motorway, with various other junctions on the more Southern end of the route, specifically in the North Midlands, having already undergone an upgrade process.Other alternative transport networks at Junction 19, such as pedestrian footpaths and cycle paths, will likewise be upgraded as part of the wider smart motorway scheme.
