Vote set on £165m bid for Soho Wharf

The go-ahead has been tipped for £165m plans to create more than 750 new homes on a derelict site on Birmingham’s Main Line Canal.Joint venture partners Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital are behind the Soho Wharf bid which is set to be voted on by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee at a meeting on Thursday 30 January.If voted through, a total of 650 one and two bed apartments across six blocks ranging from six to 14 storeys would be created as well as 106 two and three-bed townhouses.Ground floor retail units with 10,613 sq ft of space are also part of the application as well as more than 300 car parking spots and 892 cycle spaces.The plan for the 11.7-acre site has been drawn up by Claridge Architects. The Dudley Road site is opposite Birmingham City Hospital, and is bound by Spring Hill and Western Road, and the Main Line Canal.The site forms part of the Greater Icknield Masterplan, one of the largest brownfield housing-led redevelopment framework within Birmingham.The plans were submitted to the council for consideration in February 2019.
