Green light for landmark hotel plans

Plans for a 15-storey hotel together with bar, restaurant and conference facilities at a landmark location in Leeds, have been given the go-ahead.Hammerson submitted plans to Leeds City Council in October 2019 for the new hotel at its Victoria Gate retail and leisure development.Its proposals is for a 205-bed hotel across 15 floors, featuring conference facilities, meeting rooms, restaurant space, entrance lobby and bar lounge.The hotel would support 50 full- and part-time jobs on completion, as well as up to 980 roles during construction.The development forms part of Hammerson’s City Quarters concept, which aims to create mixed-use neighbourhoods at its existing flagship destinations.Planning permission was granted by the council’s City Plans Panel yesterday (30 January), subject to conditions and completion of a Section 106 Agreement. The approval was in line with a recommendation from the council’s planning officer.The building has been designed by ACME, which was also the architects’ practice behind Victoria Gate.
